My girls create so much artwork that sometimes it is difficult to know what to do with it all. Recently we created a wall hanging to celebrate a favorite piece of artwork.
This piece hangs in my daughter’s bedroom and she is delighted to see her drawing as a different piece of art.
Sewing artwork is a fun way to teach valuable sewing skills and makes a great gift for grandparents.

What you'll need
- Felt in multiple colors
- Embroidery thread to match the felt
- Embroidery needle
- Light colored cotton fabric
- Embroidery hoop
- Fabric Markers
- Scissors
- Paper and pencil
Helpful Tip:
You have two options for displaying the piece: 1. Trim the fabric around the outside of the finished hoop and tie ribbon around the screw to hang. 2. Take the fabric out the hoop and iron the back of the fabric. Tape the piece to cardboard, and display in a frame.
How to make it
1. Choose a favorite piece of children's artwork that is simple and relatively easy to reproduce.
Make a copy of the artwork by tracing it with paper and pencil, photocopying the original drawing, or scanning and printing at home.
2. Cut out each piece of the drawing in similar colored felt.
3. Put a piece of cotton in the embroidery hoop and tighten to hold.
Place the felt pieces on the embroidery hoop. Using similar colored thread to the felt, sew the pieces onto the hoop.
4. For small details, use fabric markers.
