What you'll need

  • 3 cardboard egg cups
  • 6" square piece of green craft foam
  • Toothpick
  • Scissors
  • 3 green chenille stems
  • Acrylic paint: pink, red and light blue
  • 6" x 3" piece of light purple tissue paper
  • 6" x 3" piece of yellow tissue paper
  • 6" x 3" piece of blue tissue paper

Helpful Tip:

The colors we have chosen are not etched in stone! Pick whatever colors you like. These look lovely displayed in a glass jar. Tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar for an even prettier effect. Glue is not needed for this project, however you can reinforce your flowers with a few dots of glue to make them last longer.

How to make it

Egg Cup Tulips step 1

1. Using an empty egg carton, cut out three egg cups and trim them down. We made ours into a pretty shape by cutting wide "V" shapes into the sides of the cups. (See photo.)

2. Paint one of the egg cups red, one pink, and the last one light blue. Set aside to dry.

3. Cut each piece of tissue paper in half so that you now have two 3"x3" squares of each color. Set aside.

4. Cut 4" long almond shaped leaves from the green craft foam.

Egg Cup Tulips step 5

5. Use a toothpick to poke a hole in the center of each leaf. (See photo.)

Egg Cup Tulips step 6

6. Use scissors to give your leaves more shape by trimming them into an hour glass type shape (See photo.)

Egg Cup Tulips step 7

7. Poke a chenille stem into the hole in the center of the leaf. Repeat for the other two leaves. (See photo.)

Egg Cup Tulips step 8

8. When egg cups are dry, use toothpick or pen to poke a hole in the bottom of each egg cup. (See photo.)

9. Insert the top of the chenille stem into the hole in the egg cup. (See photo.) Pull the egg cup about a fourth of the way down the chenille stem.

Egg Cup Tulips step 10

10. Insert the top of the chenille stem into the center of the two tissue paper squares. Run the egg cup up to the tissue paper. (See photo.) The tissue paper will tuck inside the egg cup. Bend the end of the chenille into the tissue paper to hold everything in place.

11. Adjust leaf by moving it up or down until it's where you want it.

12. Repeat steps 7-10 for each flower.
